HEALTH CAREER CONNECTIONS

The health-care industry is growing rapidly, and in turn, many new jobs are becoming available. However, for individuals who are considering a career in health care but have no prior experience in the industry, getting a job can be a challenge.

Health Career Connections is an innovative new program that helps individuals prepare for, find and keep jobs in the health-care industry.

The program also helps health-care facilities meet their staffing needs by matching job seekers with appropriate job openings, lowering turnover rates and providing a new cost-effective method for recruiting quality entry-level employees.

Health Careers Workshop
This weeklong workshop provides participants with health-care specific job information on topics such as customer service, goal setting, communication and professionalism. Participants are also introduced to the culture of health care, supervisor expectations and the importance of each employee's contribution. Throughout the workshop, discussions address how to ensure quality, safety and service excellence in a health-care environment.

Health Careers Learning Center
In the Health Careers Learning Center , program participants have access to computers, the Internet, occupational interest assessments, health-care job descriptions, labor projections, career-planning resources, reference materials, sample résumés and portfolios and computerized tutorials.

Job Retention Services
Retention support is provided for program graduates to help them overcome potential barriers and keep their jobs. Support includes frequent communication between participants and a retention specialist, career development classes and career counseling. Depending on the participant's situation and funding sources, additional supportive services may be available.

Career Advancement Resources
Participants hired through the Health Career Connections program will have access to additional career counseling, employee career resource centers, Skill Builder™ classes, GED and English as a Second Language classes, the School at Work™ program and courses on subjects such as medical terminology and anatomy. Specific career advancement resources may vary by employment location.
